Be realistic

Which scholarships Indian students actually get

Most students

University fee discounts in the UK, Ireland, France and the Netherlands, usually ₹2 to ₹10 lakh off the first year. Often automatic when you apply early.

Middle-income families

Italy's DSU grants are based on family income, not just marks, and can cover living costs and fees. The paperwork is demanding but very winnable.

Top profiles

Chevening, Commonwealth, DAAD, Eiffel and the Government of Ireland award. Worth applying for, but plan your finances as if you won't get them.

FAQs

Scholarship questions answered

Which country gives the most scholarships to Indian students?
For the number of students who actually receive money, Italy's income-based DSU grants and UK university fee discounts reach the most Indian students. For fully funded awards, the UK (Chevening, Commonwealth) and Germany (DAAD) are the best known, but they are very competitive.
Can I study abroad fully free?
Only with a fully funded scholarship such as Chevening, Commonwealth, DAAD, Eiffel or the Government of Ireland award, and these go to a small share of applicants. A more realistic plan combines low tuition (Germany, France, Italy) with a partial award.
When should I start applying for scholarships for 2027?
For the big government scholarships, 12 to 14 months before the course starts. Several 2027 deadlines (Chevening, DAAD, EPOS) have already passed. University awards and the Irish, French, Dutch and Italian schemes are still ahead.
Do I need a university offer before applying for a scholarship?
For most schemes, yes or at least an application. The Government of Ireland, Charpak and university awards need one; Eiffel needs your school to nominate you.
Does Kompass guarantee a scholarship?
No. No honest consultant can. We shortlist the awards you are eligible for, build your timeline and review your statements, then you apply.
