The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW) is one of the three programs managed through Express Entry, and the main route for skilled workers whose experience is outside Canada. Before you can enter the pool through FSW, you must meet its minimum requirements and score at least 67 points on its six selection factors.
Minimum requirements
- At least one year of continuous full-time (or equal part-time) paid skilled work in the last ten years, in a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupation.
- CLB 7 or higher in all four language abilities in English or French, from an approved test.
- A Canadian credential, or a foreign credential with an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
- Proof of settlement funds, unless you are authorised to work in Canada and have a valid job offer.

Language
For your first official language you earn 6 points per ability at CLB 9 or higher, 5 at CLB 8 and 4 at CLB 7. A second official language at CLB 5 in all four abilities adds 4 points.
Experience, age and education
- Experience: 1 year earns 9, 2–3 years earn 11, 4–5 years earn 13, 6+ years earn 15.
- Age: 12 points from 18 to 35, then one point less each year until 46; none from 47.
- Education: 25 for a PhD, 23 for a master's or licensed professional degree, 21 for a bachelor's.
Adaptability
Up to 10 points in total for things that help you settle: your own study or skilled work in Canada, your spouse's language, study or work in Canada, arranged employment, and a close relative in Canada.

FSW grid versus CRS
The 67-point grid only decides eligibility. Once you are in the pool, IRCC ranks you with the separate Comprehensive Ranking System, scored out of 1,200. A comfortable pass on the grid does not guarantee an invitation.
