How it works

What a NOC code tells you

Canada classifies every job into a five-digit National Occupational Classification (NOC) code. The second digit is the TEER category, from 0 (management) to 5, which shows the training, education and experience the job usually needs.

Express Entry counts work in TEER 0, 1, 2 and 3 occupations as skilled. From 3 November 2026, work or a job offer in one of IRCC's 186 high-wage occupations also earns extra CRS points, and several occupation categories get their own draws.

IRCC judges your NOC by your duties, not your job title. Choosing the wrong code is a common reason applications are refused, so check the main duties on the occupation's page against what you actually do.
