Do I need a job offer for the 189?

No. The 189 is not tied to an employer. It is based on your occupation, your skills assessment and your points.

Why do high scorers get invited first?

Invitations are issued in rounds. People with higher points, and in occupations the Government needs, are generally invited before those at the pass mark.

Can I live anywhere in Australia on a 189?

Yes. There is no requirement to live in a particular state or region.

What if my points are too low for a 189?

You can look at improving English, adding a partner's points, a different occupation, or a state-nominated route such as the 190 or 491.
