Do I have to stay in the nominating state?

States expect you to live and work there for a period after the visa is granted. The requirement is a commitment, not a legal condition on the visa, but you should plan to honour it.

Is it easier to get a state nomination than a 189 invitation?

It can be, for occupations a state needs, but each state sets its own rules and capacity. It is not easier for every occupation.

Can I apply to more than one state?

You can show interest in several states on your EOI. If one nominates you, other nominations are generally off the table, so the choice matters.

Does the 190 give permanent residence straight away?

Yes. It is a permanent visa, unlike the 491 which is provisional.
